Hijo de Puta is actually "Son of a Whore"...
Shom, the deal is--that Puta when used as a word on its own--means whore literally, but when used in context with hijo de (son of), it translates into son of a bitch.

Puta literally means whore, and can be extended to any woman who is seen as being sexually loose. The origins of the word are ancient, and it is quite literally an abbreviation of the word prostituta: p'uta. The word is used in quite a few common expressions. Hijo de puta (lit.
